Amazingly, nearly 60% of Scotland’s landmass could be termed as hilly or mountainous. Ben Nevis is the highest mountain not only in Scotland, but also in the UK; and the country also boasts some of the remotest mountain areas in places like Cairngorm. Truly spectacular! Furthermore, this is the only area in the UK that regularly has sufficient snow for skiiers and snowboarders to enjoy.
Throughout Scotland there are many different rock types and faces, including sandstone, gabbro and gneiss (the oldest rock in the world). Climbers and mountaineers can marvel at every possible type of cliff, each one a challenge in its own right. Some are easy to scramble, whilst others require more technical skills and the right kit.
